Course description
Developed from Crew Resources Management programmes in aviation, this course is specifically designed to improve safety and efficiency and enhance clinical performance. This on-demand self-paced online programme provides a comprehensive understanding of Human Factors in the healthcare environment and how human error can affect patient safety. With engaging video modules and quizzes, the training develops non-technical skills that complement technical competency and includes teamwork, situational awareness, decision making, communication and workload management.
Through this course, healthcare staff can gain understanding of why human errors occur, how systems factors can threaten patient safety, and how Human Factors tools can reduce the likelihood of patient harm. The training also helps to enhance teamwork and improve communication, and to identify 'what went wrong' and predict 'what could go wrong', so that proactive measures can be taken to avoid, trap and mitigate errors.
Human error is inevitable, and our training recognises that cooperative and collaborative teams are essential for achieving safety and high reliability in complex and hazardous work environments. Our goal is to provide participants with an understanding of the human causes of error, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage a team-based, high-risk activity.
